Tuning into Teens
Tuning in to Teens™ (TINT) is an upcoming evidence-based parenting program, derived from the renowned Tuning in to Kids® (TIK) program by Professor Sophie Havighurst, Ann Harley, and Dr. Christiane Kehoe. Initially launched in 2012, the program underwent a revision in 2019.
Designed for parents and caregivers of adolescents aged 10-18 years, TINT builds upon the foundational principles of TIK, with a particular focus on emotion coaching skills. It addresses the distinctive developmental needs of teenagers, highlighting acceptance, empathy, and support as pivotal components in fostering healthy parent-teen relationships.
With a unique emphasis on guiding parents through responses to adolescent autonomy-seeking behaviors, TINT aims to strengthen bonds between parents and teens amid challenges such as rejection and resistance. Supported by two randomized control trials, TINT showcases notable enhancements in parenting approaches, parent-teen dynamics, and adolescent mental well-being.
